Boxing – WBA hand title back to Khan

Amir Khan has welcomed the decision by the WBA to reinstate him as light-welterweight champion ahead of his bout with WBC title-holder Danny Garcia in Las Vegas on Saturday.

Khan, who is 1/6 with bookmaker to defeat Garcia, lost his WBA and IBF titles to Lamont Peterson in controversial circumstances in December 2011. His camp appealed the outcome and a rematch was ordered, but was then cancelled when Peterson failed a drugs test.
“Justice has been done,” said the Bolton fighter.
“I’m glad the WBA are reinstating me as champion; it means I walk into this fight as world champion.
“The only one I have not won is the WBO one, but I tried to fight Tim Bradley for that and he turned me down. If I win against Garcia, it means I have done everything I want to do in this division.”
