Football – Berbatov frustrated by uncertain future

Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov, frustrated with a lack of first-team opportunites, has admitted he is prepared to leave Old Trafford.

United, who are 15/2 with bookmaker to defeat Everton 2-1 in their first game of the new season, took up an optional additional year on Berbatov’s contract towards the end of last season, but the 31-year-old is resigned to leaving the club this summer.
The Bulgarian believes his future lies elsewhere, with Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez preferred as support for Wayne Rooney by Sir Alex Ferguson.
“The truth is, I love this club, but I am not going to be useful to anyone, if I am not playing,” Berbatov wrote on his Facebook page.
“And I want to play, I want to help. But for unknown reasons it’s not going to happen, or my chances will be limited, so it’s better for everyone if we say goodbye.
“If not, I am professional and I will keep doing everything I can, to help my team and my team-mates, whenever I have opportunity to do so.”
