Golf – Upbeat Harrington eyes Algarve win

Padraig Harrington believes his good record at the Portugal Masters will hold him in good stead when he plays at Oceanico’s Victoria Golf Club this week.

The Dubliner, 22/1 to win with bookmaker in Portugal, is in danger of failing to qualify for the HSBC WGC Champions event if he fails to win this week.
Only victory is likely to be enough to secure a place in the exclusive 78-man field in China at the start of next month.
He said: “I played pretty well there on my last visit two years ago. I remember shooting 62 in the second round so it is a course I have played well on in the past.
Lining up against Harrington in the Algarve this week will be a field that includes four other Major winners – American John Daly, Martin Kaymer (9/1), Paul Lawrie and Jose Maria Olazabal.
