Golf – Westwood happy with US move

England’s Lee Westwood is content that an impending move to play on the PGA Tour full-time will aid his bid to finally land a Major title.

Westwood finished 13 shots adrift of winner Ernie Els at the recent Open Championship at Royal Lytham, but the 39-year-old remains confident that he will eventually land one of the game’s big prizes.
His next opportunity to do so comes at the USPGA Championship, with Westwood 14/1 with bookmaker to triumph at Kiawah Island in early August.
Westwood is confident that being based Stateside will pay dividends, telling ESPN: “I’m not doing it merely for the sake of it.
“I think playing over there on their courses all the time, with those kind of practice facilities and the right kind of weather, should have a big effect considering three of the four Majors are played there.”
Westwood has finished in tied third and tied eighth in his last two appearances at the USPGA.
