Nicky Henderson believes Long Run is peaking at just the right time and has backed him to beat Kauto Star in the Cheltenham Gold Cup.
Last year’s winner has been eclipsed by Kauto Star all season, being beaten twice by him at Haydock Park and Kempton Park.
However, Henderson believes Long Run, 13/8 with bookmaker to win the Gold Cup, could still retain his crown, saying: “I was absolutely delighted with his win at Newbury. He jumped really well and travelled just fine.
“Things have gone very well at home ever since and he may just be coming right at exactly the right time.”
Kauto Star is available at 10/3 to win the Gold Cup.
