EURO 2021

Mario Gomez 2/1 favourite to get Golden Boot Euro 2012

With only four teams left in Euro 2012, there are two clear favourites for the Golden Boot award of top goalscorer – Mario Gomez of Germany and Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal. Gomez and Ronaldo both have three goals, but Gomez is marginally favourite to end up top goalscorer at a top price of 2/1 (bet £1 to win £2) with Boylesports and Blue Square.

Mario Gomez’s chances were weakened by being rotated against Greece in the quarter-final, along with Thomas Muller and Lukasz Podolski, but it is though that that front trio will return for Germany’s semi-final against Italy on Thusday.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal face the slightly trickier tie of Spain in their semi-final, and with it more likely that Gomez’s Germany will get to the final than Ronaldo’s Portugal, it is 9/4 with Coral only that Ronaldo ends top goalscorer. Many other firms offer the same price for Ronaldo as Gomez, around the 2/1 mark.

Remember, there is no third place play-off match for the losers of the semi-finals.

Portugal have been very reliant on Ronaldo for his goals and individual brilliance – they operate as less of a unit than Germany do when going forward. Ronaldo is Portugal’s primary goalscoring threat and can create goals out of nothing – you feel that if Portugal are going to break down Spain on the break, it will be through the danger of Ronaldo.

Having said that, Spain monopolise possession to such an extent that Portugal really won’t see much of the ball, and Ronaldo may well get frustrated with his team-mates difficulty in keeping the ball against a suffocating opposition. Ronaldo’s success in scoring will rely heavily on his patience in his side being dominated by superior opposition while he works hard, which may not sit well with such a big personality.

Gomez on the other hand, operates as part of a wholesome unit going forward for Germany who all know each other’s style very well. Having said that, while any of the front five could easily get in position to score against Italy, Gomez is very much the spearhead of the attack, and against Netherlands two lethal finishes from Gomez were the difference.

There are two other players joint at the top of the goalscoring charts, Croatia’s Mario Mandzukic, and Russia’s Alan Dzagoev, who are both 40/1 with Bet Victor to be joint winner. With both Croatia and Russia having not made it out of the group stage, this relies on no other player exceeding three goals, which is seen as unlikely.

Spain’s Xabi Alonso has two goals after his double against France and is 33/1 with Blue Square for the Golden Boot. While Alonson is guaranteed starting places in all of Spain’s games, he is more of a defensive midfielder, though he can get forward, as evidence by his first goal against France.

Spain’s Cesc Fabregas is not certain of a starting place, with Fernando Torres being preferred at times up front for Spain, but with both players on two goals, Torres is 7/1 with Coral and William Hill to get the Golden Boot while Fabregas is 20/1 with Coral.

Miroslav Klose is next best at 50/1 with Stan James, but he only has one goal so far and is not likely to start for Germany. Italy’s Mario Balotelli is 66/1 with Stan James, but only has one goal so far.

The two semi-finals are on Wednesday and Thursday of this week while the final is on Sunday. If you want to bet some money in bookmaker on this semi final look at Portugalia Hiszpania zakłady bukmacherskie by darmowa-kasa.pl betting website bookmaker.
