Rugby Union – Sheridan out of World Cup

England’s Andrew Sheridan could face going under the knife on his shoulder again after being ruled out of the Rugby World Cup.

Alex Corbisiero is set to replace Sheridan in the game against Georgia, which England are 1/300 to win with bookmaker, but was saddened to see his “hero” leave the squad.
Sheridan’s tournament is over after UK doctors studied scans and decided damage to his left shoulder meant he couldn’t continue. The Sale prop made the squad after recovering from surgery on his right shoulder and, after dislocating his left shoulder in 2009, is now waiting to hear whether he requires another operation.
“It’s a big blow to leave the World Cup through injury, but it’s a significant injury to the shoulder, so I have to deal with that and get on with it now,” said the 31-year-old.
“I think everyone knows shoulders are quite complicated structures, so it’s difficult to come back.”
