In four Polish host cities three thousand volunteers will help guests of the EURO 2012. The recruitment officially began on Wednesday. The “Volunteer Work of Host Cities” programme is independent of the similar one organized by the UEFA and is directed mainly to fans and tourists, not only to team players of the EURO 2012. UEFA-recommended accommodation centres are approached as basis for individual national teams for Euro 2012. The drawing of groups for the finals will take place in Kiev on December 2. Each participant of the finals has the right to point out a single accommodation centre in Poland and Ukraine and two substitute centres. The UEFA-recommended accommodation centre list, published on October 1, 2010, includes 17 Ukrainian and 21 Polish centres. One of the most intricate operations has begun at the National Stadium – the elevation of the roof line structure. Until January 4 the 70-meter spire will be elevated to the height of 34 meters above the pitch by means of 72 steel ropes. The central point of construction – a huge spire with “garage” mounted on it for the movable part of the roof will be elevated by more than 40 meters. As UEFA president Michel Platini warns Ukraine that time is running out to complete its Euro 2012 preparations, the co-hosts announced today the opening date for the much-delayed Lviv stadium.
