Sunday’s draw for the Euro 2012 Championships qualifying competition was finished. Each team in the qualifying groups will play one another on a home and away basis, with matches taking place up to October 2011. The nine group winners and the best runner-up qualify directly for the final tournament. Preparations for the Euro 2012 football tournament in Poland and Ukraine are well on track, the ruling body UEFA said on Friday with nine days left until the qualifying group draw. The February 7 draw in Warsaw is the first big event around the tournament which created various problems in the early stages after the two Eastern European nations were elected hosts in 2007. ‘Preparations for Euro 2012 are going well,’ UEFA general secretary Gianni Infantino told the body’s website after an executive board meeting on Thursday in Malta.

The European Football Union announced on Wednesday a division into six baskets before eliminations of the 2012 European Championships in Poland and Ukraine. The ceremony will be held on 7 February 2010 in the Congress Hall in Warsaw. The European Football Union (UEFA) stopped debating about the possible changes in the organization of the European Football Championships in 2012 – claimed Gerhard Mayer-Vorfeldr, the vice-president of UEFA in Germany, on Tuesday in Copenhagen. The construction works are being carefully observed.. UEFA President Michel Platini has urged the international community on Thursday to help Poland and Ukraine in their preparations for the Euro 2012. Decision, if Ukraine will be able to organize Euro 2012 with Poland, will be made in September. Michel Platini, the chairman of the UEFA was talking about this in Florence. According to his words, the organization of the tournament by Poland is not threatened. During the talk with journalists Platini has announced, that the progress of preparations to Euro 2012 in both countries is not bad.

Italian daily paper “La Repubblica” expressed an opinion that nobody will take back Euro 2012. Italian media suggested before that the tournament would take place on the Apenine Peninsula. Such comment was on the margin of the conversation with the president of UEFA Michel Platini who was staying in Italy. Platini, when asked if there is any news concerning Ukraine that is preparing Euro 2012 answered: “no, none”.
