The European Football Union announced on Wednesday a division into six baskets before eliminations of the 2012 European Championships in Poland and Ukraine. The ceremony will be held on 7 February 2010 in the Congress Hall in Warsaw. On Wednesday a cornerstone was built in under the construction of the stadium in Gdansk for the Football European Championships in 2012. Lech Walesa, the former President, Miroslaw Drzewiecki, minister of sport and tourism, Marcin Herra, chief-executive of PL.2012 and Grzegorz Lato, chief-executive of PZPN took part in the event. UEFA decided to organize Euro 2012 in eight cities. Poland and Ukraine applied for expanding the list of host-cities to 10-12. Not everyone liked the UEFA’s decision of leaving the organization of the European football championships in 2012 for Poland and Ukraine. The Germans had the most grudges, but this shouldn’t came as a surprise to anybody as it’s widely known that our western neighbors wanted to take over the event most. According to the daily “Die Welt”, UEFA president Michel Platini gave Poland and Ukraine “a yellow card and a warning” but he is endangered himself by “a red card” and the European Championships are endangered by a fiasco.
