Prime Minister Yulia Timoshenko of Ukraine has participated in a meeting of the Polish-Ukrainian Committee for the organisation of the EURO 2012. While in Warsaw she also held talks with Prime Minister Donald Tusk on the preparations to the championships. Poland wants to set a new deadline for the construction of their Euro 2012 stadiums, Sports Minister Elzbieta Jakubiak said on Monday. Since Poland won the right in April to co-host the event with Ukraine, early euphoria has been replaced by growing concerns it may not prepare new grounds and upgrade inadequate infrastructure in time. European soccer’s governing body UEFA says the tournament co-hosts must build the necessary stadiums by mid-2010.

Poland is considering enlisting as many as 20,000 prisoners to help build the stadiums, roads and hotels that it desperately needs to co-host the Euro 2012 soccer tournament. The fourteenth finals of the UEFA European Football Championship will be held in Poland and in Ukraine between 8 June and 1 July 2012. For the third time the right to organize the tournament was given to the two countries. Sixteen teams divided into four groups will compete in eight stadiums for the final triumph. The Municipal Stadium in Poznan in Bulgarska Street was built and was put into use in 1980. Lech Poznan plays their matches on this stadium.
