Chelsea, 17/2 with bookmaker to beat Manchester City on Monday, have confirmed that Nicolas Anelka is heading to Chinese Super League club Shanghai Shenhua in January.
The 32-year-old French striker had a transfer request granted by Blues boss Andre Villas-Boas earlier in the season and has not been training with the rest of the first-team squad at Stamford Bridge of late.
The Chinese side are also believed to be interested in signing Anelka’s Chelsea team-mate Didier Drogba, although a club spokesman would only say: “So far, on Drogba to move to Shenhua, our club has no clear confirmation.”
Anelka scored 38 goals in 125 Premier League appearances for Chelsea, who are 11/2 to draw 1-1 with Roberto Mancini’s table-toppers.
