Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish was delighted by a “fantastic performance” from his team after they defeated Manchester City to reach the final of the Carling Cup.
Dalglish’s side, who are 1/6 with bookmaker to win the trophy, went through after sealing a 3-2 aggregate win over City at Anfield on Wednesday night and will take on Championship side Cardiff at Wembley on Sunday 26th February.
City went ahead through Nigel de Jong but Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard equalised from the spot. Edin Dzeko put City in the driving seat once more before Craig Bellamy, playing against his old employers, sealed a fine individual performance with Liverpool’s second.
“The boys were magnificent tonight and deserve a great deal of credit, and everybody in the squad has helped us get through,” said Dalglish.
“The supporters were magnificent and it is a great reward for them and the loyalty they have shown us, so for everybody at Liverpool it has been a fantastic evening.”
