Soccer – Forest applications pour in

More than 40 applicants have registered an interest in the managerial vacancy at Championship strugglers Nottingham Forest.

Former England boss Steve McClaren left the club following a 3-1 defeat at home to Birmingham City which left the Nottingham club down in 21st place in the Championship table – just one point clear of the drop zone and 6/1 with bookmaker to be relegated.
Chief executive Mark Arthur and the Forest board are keen to make an appointment as soon as possible, with ex-Forest midfielder Roy Keane (2/1) and another former Reds favourite, Martin O’Neill (12/1), much fancied for the job.
Arthur told the club’s official website: “We are more determined than ever to have a proper structure at the club and a footballing culture that will stand us in good stead going forward – not just in the coming months, but the long term.
“I would hope by the middle of next week that we will have someone in place.”
