Soccer – Hodgson backs Spurs’ bid

West Brom manager Roy Hodgson has backed Spurs, 11/1 with bookmaker, to be serious Premier League title contenders this season.

Harry Redknapp’s men are six points behind leaders Manchester City with a game in hand following their 1-0 win over the Baggies at White Hart Lane.
That position is close enough for a sustained title challenge according to Hodgson, who said: “They keep putting pressure on Manchester City and Manchester United to win their matches and they are getting some distance between themselves and the chasing pack.
“If they win their game in hand, then it will all be a question of seeing which of the three or four teams will have the best last 18 games.
“The quality is there, the depth of squad is. I wouldn’t bet against them.”
While Spurs remain firmly in the title picture, leaders City are 8/13 to win the top-flight crown for the first time since 1968, with Manchester United 15/8.
