EURO 2021

Soccer – Matthaus puts England under pressure

Bulgaria head coach Lothar Matthaus has turned up the heat ahead of the Euro 2012 qualifier against England in Sofia on Friday evening.

England are 4/7 with bookmaker to win the game and move closer to qualification for next year’s finals, but Matthaus believes that his side can cause a shock.
He said: “All the pressure will be on them to win. They need to stay ahead of Montenegro and they need to get the maximum points before the key (final) match in Podgorica.”
England’s attack is set to be led by Manchester United ace Wayne Rooney, who, fresh from his weekend hat-trick against Arsenal, is 15/4 to be the first goalscorer.
England head coach Fabio Capello has been forced to make one change to his squad, with goalkeeper Robert Green replaced by Frankie Fielding after the West Ham man suffered a finger injury.
