EURO 2021

Soccer – Rooney ban rocks England

England are now 10/1 with bookmaker to win Euro 2012 after star striker Wayne Rooney was handed a three-match suspension by UEFA.

Rooney has been punished heavily for being sent off in the 2-2 draw in Montenegro which clinched England’s place at next summer’s finals in Poland and Ukraine.
The Manchester United ace will miss all three of England’s group games unless an appeal is successful, leaving England head coach Fabio Capello with a major dilemma over whether to name Rooney in his 23-man squad.
Spurs manager Harry Redknapp believes that Rooney would still be worth a place, telling The Sun: “We should definitely still take him to the finals. England should be strong enough to get through the group without Rooney and then we’ll have him raring to go in the latter stages.”
Former England skipper Alan Shearer shared the the view of Redknapp, who is one of the favourites to succeed Capello next year.
“I still think whoever replaces him in the team, England still should have enough to get through the three games without him,” Shearer added.
