Vincent Kompany is confident that Manchester City will learn from last season’s Champions League campaign and navigate a safe passage to the knockout stages of this term’s competition.
Roberto Mancini’s side failed to make it out of the group stages in 2011-12 after being drawn in the same group as Bayern Munich, 12/1 with bookmaker to win this season’s Champions League, Napoli and Villarreal.
It won’t be any easier for City, 10/1 to win Europe’s most prestigious club competition, this season, as they have been drawn against Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Ajax.
However, Kompany is confident the Premier League champions have more know-how now, saying: “I think we are the kind of team that gets better as the challenges are greater. That is perfect for us. There won’t be any moments where we will be surprised.
“The motivation is sky-high. The atmosphere will be great in each of the six games we have in the group.”
