Tennis – Federer eyes sixth US crown

World number three Roger Federer was happy with his performance after making it through to the second round of the US Open.

Sixteen-time Grand Slam champion Federer, who is 6/1 with bookmaker to win the title at Flushing Meadows, saw off Santiago Giraldo 6-4 6-3 6-2 despite struggling to hit top gear.
However, after setting up a clash with Israel’s Dudi Sela, an upbeat Swiss said: “As the match went on, I think I started to get more solid and better and that’s a good feeling to have.
“I don’t care how I do it, it doesn’t need to be pretty. You try to put on a good show and I was able to play a good match, so I’m pleased.”
Federer is seeded to meet world number one Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals, with the Serb 6/4 to win his third Grand Slam of the season.
